SUMMARY:Residential Holistic Structured Writing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Join our 3-day holistic writing retreat at the Abbey from Monday 20th July to Wednesday 22nd July 2026. \n\n\n\nAre you a busy academic who needs to get away from your desk and out of the home\, to somewhere more inspiring so you can focus on your writing? Or are you someone who has yearned to express themselves creatively through writing but has never quite found the confidence or right environment to do it? Or perhaps you’re someone who just wishes to explore their thoughts\, to self-reflect and understand who they are and where they want to be? \n\n\n\nCome as you are and let’s embark on a journey of creativity\, growth and self-discovery! \n\n\n\nThis retreat will be facilitated by Alison Eardley and Tina Cartwright. Alison is an academic\, and is also a trained writing retreat facilitator\, and she has been running structured writing retreats for 9 years. Her husband is fiction writer and she has also been a participant on a good number of non-structured writing retreats\, mostly with other authors. Tina is a qualified yoga instructor\, and is also an academic. Her yoga practice is based on Hatha Yoga. Yoga sessions at the retreats are open to everyone from absolute beginners to regular practitioners. Retreat sessions focus on stretching and relaxation\, and provide a way to soothe away the physical tensions that can arise from a day of writing. \n\n\n\nWhat can you expect? \n\n\n\nOpen to all types of writers\, the structured writing retreat is designed to provide you with an opportunity to write in a supportive\, inspiring\, peaceful and productive environment. Different from some writing retreat models\, in the structured writing retreat all writers work together in the same room\, with a facilitator managing the sessions. \n\n\n\nIn the structured writing model\, the times that we write are set\, and the facilitator tells the group when to start and when to stop. In our busy lives\, where there are always competing things to do\, and demands upon us\, there is something quite magical about relinquishing that choice. Instead\, we work as a group\, which creates a sense of community and shared endeavour\, a community of practice. The focus of the people around us can support our focused concentration and experience of that ‘flow’ state\, where we sink into our chosen activity and time passes without noticing. Crucially\, the retreats also encourages healthy writing practices\, where we take regular breaks\, and enriches the focus on wellbeing by incorporating optional walks and yoga into the schedule. \n\n\n\n3-DAY RETREAT (all included) \n\n\n\nSingle Occupancy (private bathroom with shower and sink) £480 (early bird price £450 until 15 January) \n\n\n\nSingle Occupancy (shared bathroom) £450 (early bird price £420 until 15 January) \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact us: welcome@theabbey.uk.com

SUMMARY:“If mindfulness is a doorway\, what’s on the other side?"
DESCRIPTION:After the positive response to September’s workshop\, we’re delighted to continue the journey in 2026. \nPeter Yiangou will guide a three-part series exploring what lies “on the other side” — and how this inquiry can deepen our understanding of happiness\, awareness\, and personal growth. \n🗓 Dates \n\nSaturday 17 January\nSaturday 14 February\nSaturday 14 March\n\n🕙 Time \n10:00 am – 1:00 pm (with a short break) \nOptional group walk after lunch \n  \n✨ Theme \nAn exploration of how we can connect our view of everyday life with something deeper and more expansive. \nSome feedback from the previous workshop : \n“…. Peter Yiangou facilitated a truly enriching experience\, creating a space where meaningful dialogue and reflection could unfold… \n“It was fantastic\, I found Peter so incredibly knowledgeable\, inspiring and inclusive. I would love for there to be a part two of this (and 3\,4….).” \nWorkshop Focus \nMindfulness is the simple practice of returning our attention to the present moment with care and curiosity. It helps us appreciate life as it is\, meeting its ups and downs with resilience and balance. \nBut what if mindfulness is more than a tool for managing stress? \nWhat if it’s a doorway — inviting us into a deeper\, richer dimension of experience? \nAcross these sessions we’ll explore: \n\nHow mindfulness helps us recognise and release unhelpful mental habits\nWhat it means to live with a sense of connection and wholeness\nHow mindful awareness can open into the wisdom of contemplative traditions\nFinding the meeting point between the ordinary and the sacred.\n\nEach workshop will include short guided practices\, reflective discussion\, and readings from a range of sources. \nAbout Peter \nPeter worked as an architect from 1980 to 2019\, leading an award-winning practice. \nHe has been closely involved with Beshara courses since the 1970s — attending retreats at Chisholme House\, serving as Chair of the Beshara Trust in the 1980s\, and later facilitating courses and retreats in the UK and internationally. \nFrom 2012 onwards\, he studied with non-dual teacher Adyashanti in the UK and US. \nSince 2015 he has trained and taught with the Oxford Mindfulness Foundation\, where he now serves as Chair and helped establish the endowed Chair in Mindfulness at the University of Oxford. \nPlease book for this event on Eventbrite.

\n  \nPlease book for this event on Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:Residential Holistic Structured Writing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Join our 3-day holistic writing retreat at the Abbey from Friday 9th January to Sunday 11th January 2026. \n\n\n\n3-DAY RETREAT (all included) \n\n\n\nSingle Occupancy (private bathroom with shower and sink) £480 (early bird price £450 until 15 November) \n\n\n\nSingle Occupancy (shared bathroom) £450 (early bird price £420 until 15 November) \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact us: welcome@theabbey.uk.com
