How you can help There are many funding and sponsorship opportunities for you to help this national treasure continue its work. In most projects of this kind, the Inland Revenue can be the largest donor. You can divert some of your tax to the Abbey by giving in one of several tax-effective ways: • Gift aid – the Abbey can claim from the Inland Revenue any tax already paid by you on a single donation. Corporate donors can deduct their gift from taxable profits. • Gift of shares – individuals can give shares to the Abbey and get relief against personal income tax as well as exemption from capital gains tax. Companies can claim corporation tax. • Gift of property, goods or equipment – donating land or buildings to the Abbey is a highly tax-efficient way to give. Businesses can get tax relief when they give articles to a UK charity. • Give As You Earn (GAYE) – if you are on PAYE and your employer is in a GAYE scheme, a regular deduction from your salary as a gift to the Abbey is tax-deductible. • Sponsorship – businesses that make payments to the Abbey for the purpose of the business can get a deduction for corporation tax.
